Rejoice…now!
We are all in search of doing things that would give us happiness, constantly. This is one thing everyone would accept. We run around, rack our brains, build principles and law, success formulae based on past experiences, some grapple with huge philosophies concerning right and wrong. We constantly compare ourselves with others trying to seek solace in the fact that we are ‘superior’ or more ‘talented’ or ‘well off’ than others are. And all of it ultimate boils down to seeking happiness in whatever we do or think. But an honest introspection would help us reveal that all these things would lead to but a fleeting sense of happiness. But then again we refrain from thinking too much along those lines or trying to realize that because that seems to take the whole sense and meaning out of running after most things we aspire for in our life. That is an illusion.
As we try to move inside we are hindered by maddening thoughts which ridicule us, sometimes excessively praise us for even trying to improve ourselves, laugh at us, ridicule at us and any other emotion that we always identify ourselves with. It is that these points that most of us give up and are just take away by the tide into in the sphere to mere cause and effect. We should move forward with FAITH.
But a sincere aspirant for everlasting joy would continue the journey inside and realize that quitting the mundane things too is not the key to happiness. It won’t lead us anywhere close to peace, joy, happiness, joy or ecstasy (different age groups prefer different terms and what I am talking about covers all of them). We should aspire to externally express the creative energy within without attaching any attachment for the results, and the catharsis of sorts due to expressing the energy within through the means to detached work would bring in us a deep calm arising from inside which no material object can give. It’s a glimpse of what joy really is, just a glimpse. It’s abundant, limitless and perennial. So even a person with average intellect would try to achieve that rather than crave for the things outside once he tastes even a drop of this elixir. Then all the ‘fun’ thing like booze, fags, weed and sex would have no meaning. We get too stuck up in worldly rules and try to seek joy by ‘escaping’ away. But there is nothing to escape from. Once we realise that all the rules banning drugs would be meaningless, though they already are, but in a different sense.
Mind works in funny ways. A man was deeply worried about the lack of comforts in his life and feeling very upset about it. Suddenly a guy snatched his cell phone and started running away. The man chased him and after some time the snatcher just stopped and returned the cell to the man. And the man was relieved, much more than when he was when he already had his cell phone with him. But after sometime we started worrying again about something else. So what I imply to say is that mind is a mad monster.
What we need is faith and patience to realize that there is more to us than just the mind. Don’t let mind be your master.
Try and take the journey within with meditation or prayer. It’s worth it. Just take the plunge and all the rules that all the religions ever preached would be known to you for you’ll know what joy really is.
