Productive Ppc Advertising - The Pros And Cons Of Using Badly Spelt Keywords
The number of products that are out there that target full time ebay users and encourage them to seek at miss-spelt words in their promotions, it’s remarkable it hasn’t been a more widely used tool for google adwords users. Certainly when we are trying to get the most productive PPC advertising campaign we can it pays to be paying 15 cents per click over a dollar or more. That’s just common sense. In this article we will look at how it works and whether there are any negatives.
The theory behind targetting poorly spelt words is quite simple. There might be 180,000 searches for “internet marketing” but only 50 for “internet marketting”. Obviously there are less people searching the term because they spelt it wrong. The trick though is that there are probably less people paying for it, so instead of paying several dollars for a click, you are paying 10 cents, and most likely are the only add displaying so automatically get the number one slot, and the resulting higher click through rate.
The flipside is that it’s a lot of hard work. First of all you have to figure out the most common ways of spelling words wrong. Then you have to create a new add group for them, and finally you have to set up additional tracking for a keyword that is most likely to bring you in a very poor number of leads.
The question is - does that matter? Your lead is still going to be highly targetted, and unless they realize they spelt the word wrong in their search, is going to credit you with more authority due to your high ranking and seeming lack of competition.
Unfortunately, in reality the pro’s don’t tend to pan out. Google has a habit of writing in big bold letters above your search “Did you mean INTERNET MARKETING“ and the general reaction is to click immediately on that link and watch as an entire new page loads, thus ruining your effort in both finding and setting up the miss-spelt word.
This of course is just my own experience. I have never had a successful campaign based on bad spelling, and on reflection I am one of those who clicks the link when offered a corrected spelling. Having said that it is always a good indicator that something does work when you type in a search and find lots of competitors ads. It’s worth noting that the example shown on this page throws 9 ads back at me - so perhaps this can be a productive way of doing your PPC advertising?
