Natural Eczema Remedies
Do you have areas of skin that are red, dry and itchy? If so, you may have eczema. Eczema is the term used to describe the condition where areas of skin are affected by persistent inflammation (dermatitis) of the upper layers. Apart from the discomfort caused, eczema can also cause areas of the skin to blister, crack or flake, and subsequently bleed or ooze.
If you believe that you are suffering from eczema, the first thing that you should do is to go and see your doctor or dermatologist (your family doctor can refer you to a dermatologist if you do not have one). This is to ensure that you are properly diagnosed, and should it be necessary, receive the appropriate medical treatment for your condition. Advice and treatment from your doctor will probably make a huge difference.
It would be a mistake however not to recognize that part of the responsibility for solving your eczema problem also lies with you. By this, I mean that you should take steps to review items in your home which may be making the eczema worse, replacing such items, and of course generally taking good care of yourself.
The first thing that I would suggest look at it is soaps, detergents and cleaning products. Many people believe that these items can contribute to eczema flaring up, and, by changing products and brands, they can bring about positive changes. I can’t tell which (if any) products may be having an adverse effect on your eczema, so you may need to experiment with different varieties - generally speaking though, you may be better off by choosing gentle products which are not heavily performed. Additionally, when washing your clothes, use a liquid detergent, and rinse them thoroughly - ideally run the rinse cycle twice.
Fabrics in your clothes and bedding can also make a difference. Many people believe they are better off with 100% cotton, products especially for bed linen, and that wool or synthetic materials may on the other hand contribute to eczema flare ups. You should also make sure that you bed linen is washed at least weekly, so as to remove any bacteria, since bacteria can also contribute to eczema.
Finally, you’ve probably already been told this a thousand times - try not to scratch! I know it’s hard when you’re itching like crazy, but scratching really isn’t helpful. If you need some relief, try soaking yourself in an oatmeal bath instead.
