Bug Hat Protection For Gardeners
Gardening can be a useful pastime to grow beautiful flowers or seasonal vegetables. However, the hot sun and pesky insects can ruin the otherwise pleasant activity. With insects flying into your eyes or around your face, it can be difficult to enjoy planting and weeding your plants. A bug bite and sunburn could keep you out of the garden for a few days as well.
Buying a large brimmed bug hat can protect you from both the sun and bug bites. The hat can be a stylish and comfortable protection from UVA rays. A brimmed bug hat also has integrated netting that can be pulled out anytime you need some extra protection from irritating flying bugs. This netting covers down to your collarbone to protect your face and neck. The hats come in a variety of styles and colors, for you and everyone else in your family who could use extra protection from mosquitoes while playing outside in the summer.
While mosquitoes can leave large bites on your arms and legs, they can also bring dangerous diseases as well. With the hot weather of summer, the mosquitoes that carry West Nile Virus can breed faster in containers or stagnant water. Already, many cases have been found in dead birds and water areas across the U.S. this year. Although some people that are bit only develop mild symptoms similar to the flu, others become seriously ill, developing inflammation of the brain and causing a coma or death. The virus is particularly dangerous for the young and the elderly, as evidenced in Canada this year when an 80 year old man died from the virus. Since the West Nile virus first appeared in North America in 1999 in New York, the cases continue to spread, and it is difficult to predict where it will show up, as mosquito populations and climate conditions vary. Wearing long sleeves and pants, wearing a bug hat, and wearing bug spray can prevent from being bit by an infected mosquito. Mosquitoes also carry other diseases such as malaria, dengue fever, and yellow fever. However, these diseases are not as prevalent in the U.S. as the West Nile Virus.
When going outside to garden or enjoy your backyard this summer, be sure to wear your bug hat and bug spray to prevent the spread of deadly diseases and from irritating insects such as gnats and no-see-ums.
