Garnett To Boston
To all Knicks fans out there the day has come where Isaiah Thomas’s off-season moves have been over shadowed by dare I say it, Danny Ainge. The words just coming out of my mouth make me shiver in disgust. Somehow, in one year the Celtics went from joke of the league to title contender or dare I say…the favorites in the East.
I remember when the Celtics not getting the number one pick was a tragedy for Boston. Now it might be considered the best thing that could have happened to their franchise. It forced Danny Ainge to go out and explore the market because the draft was no longer their savior. It forced Ainge to trade young unproven talent for players that are seasoned veterans, hungry for the ring, with arguably each of their best seasons in the prior year.
How in the hell did this happen? Did the West go mad? The East is slowly taking the stars of the West and importing them into their systems. The West for a while now has been considered the A-squad with East being the B. Now the West seems to be taking a page form the East and trying to build there teams around young, fun, and dumb talent. Now I’m not trying to be cruel, but seasoned vet’s in certain situations in the game are just plain, and simply going to have more knowledge and know how on what to do then a rookie or sophomore player.
The Celtics have done perhaps the best job of collecting talent in one year then maybe any team in the history of basketball. They arguably got the best Shooting Guard and Power Forward/Center in the game and didn’t really lose much. They took advantage of the Seattle SuperSoncis willingness to part with all of their talent and the conspiracy theorists will tell you that the Timberwolves traded there franchise player to the Celtics perhaps because their GM, Kevin McHale, has very close ties with the Celtics considering he played his career as their power forward. Either way the Celtics did something that no team has ever dreamed of doing. Finding gold in their trash or more so trading trash for gold.
