Wakeboard Fins
Many people are aware of the different uses and advantages of wakeboarding equipments but one of the overlooked parts of wakeboards is the wakeboard fins. These wakeboard fins are the ones that maintain the balance of the person in the wakeboard and keep the wakeboard going into the direction it is pointed to. The wakeboard fins are also responsible in making drags that in turn pulls down the rear of the wakeboard to track the water.
The type, the shape, and the design of your wakeboard fins are essential when your board interacts with the water. You should also note that not all fins that come with your wakeboard when you buy it is necessarily the best kind of fin for you. For example, having a large fin will give you more drag since it digs deeper into the water and makes the board more balanced. On the other hand, having a smaller fin will give you no such advantage. A fin that is shallow will also enable you to have quicker reactions and turns that are sharper.
There are also many types of fin configurations you should know about because this is essential when you need to choose a fin. An example of fin configurations is the singles which is made from one center fin on the two ends. The advantages of singles include turns that are easier to maneuver and the fins will have a lesser chance of catching when compared to multi fin. Also, you need to acquire larger single fins when you want to go into rougher waters.
On the other hand, another type of fin configuration is the quad tips. This type of fin is made with four fins with two fins on either side of the board. This type of fin configuration gives the rider tighter and quicker turns, however, this type of fin will feel loose during turn maneuvers. Another type of fin configuration is the six fins. This type of fins give more control to the rider and helps give better acceleration during turns. Because of the six fins with the removable center fin in this configuration, this type of fins is suited to rough and unsteady waters. Meanwhile, the molded-in fin is another type of fin configuration and it maximizes the grip on the edge that allows the rider to maintain control of the board while giving the option to remove the center fin in smooth water.
As you can see, each of the fin configurations has its own advantages and wake boarder prefer each type of fin over the other based on the water conditions in their area or the location where they prefer to wakeboard. But it is also important that a rider feels comfortable with the fin he is using because this will cause an effect on his overall performance. Wakeboard fins are made from aluminum because this material is sturdy and strong while remaining lightweight. This is the perfect material suited for wakeboard fins but some wakeboard fins are also made from fiberglass.
