Jaco Costa Rica Tourism - A Guide To Jaco Beach
Today I’m going to take you to Costa Rica’s Central Pacific area. There’s a beach called Jaco, 56 miles away from San Jose, 2 hour drive. Jaco doesn’t have flights, so it’s either bus, or rent a car.
In this article I will also reveal useful tips for Traveling in Costa Rica. For more information on that check the complete article.
Get a car with GPS, there are very few road signals and it’s easy to get lost along the way. The roads are pretty bad, a 4X4 is recommended, drive carefully, slowly and be ready for the unexpected. Don’t get directions from anybody, try restaurants, there are many who speak English that can help you. Also never travel at night unless its needed and don’t take passengers from the road. If you try the bus, it’s the cheapest, takes longer, but you’ll get to you destination. Try Gray Line, they are pretty good, local buses tend to get pretty crowded, and depending on the place you are going its not that safe.
Jaco is a crowded place, full of hotels, bars; you’ll have a menu to choose from.
If you need adventure, Jaco can provide it. Amongst the action packed tours you have white water rafting either at Savegre River or Naranjo River. Mangrove kayaking, coastal kayaking and night mangrove kayaking, choose one or try them all. Try the aerial tram, canopy, hiking; tour guides on each hotel can help you out with that.
The beach is cleaned every day, sea water isn’t that clean. They are trying to fix that with regulations, so don’t try swallowing sea water, not healthy! The sea is great for surfing, many national competitions are done here, in Hermosa there also night surfing every once in a while and some world tour championships are hosted there. There are many sites with web cams and tide information.
Jaco has had problems with prostitution and robbery, so be careful, never leave your things at the beach to go swim, when you come back you’ll probably have a nasty surprise. The town is about 4 miles long on a strip along the beach, even if its small don’t walk, get a cab, it’s cheap and you for $2 I rather get a cab than get mugged.
Hotel Amapola has the Jazz Casino, which hosted some international poker tournaments. It has a large volume of people on and off, especially on weekends. Usually they have poker (holdem is the most popular), blackjack, roulette, slots, craps, tute, etc. Try getting the gaming rules, some games tend to have different ones than in Las Vegas, so find information before you loose your money. Next stop, Manuel Antonio!
